Virtual library project 2004 - 2006

The project ”Virtual library services as a part of the Finnish Virtual Polytechnic” (a.k.a. Virtual library project) tested and modelled the collaboration between the polytechnic libraries and the Finnish Virtual Polytechnic (nowadays called the Finnish Online University of Applied Sciences). The project started November 2004 and ended December 2006.

The aim of the project was:

  • to combine and make visible the electronic services and professional know-how of the polytechnic libraries in order to develop virtual library services
  • to coordinate the integration of the services and know-how of the polytechnic libraries as a part of the Finnish Virtual Polytechnic and the development of on-line learning.

The operations needed to reach the goals were divided into five themes. The professionals from the polytechnic libraries and the Finnish Virtual Polytechnic collaborate within the five themes:

  • Management of the digital learning material
  • Information literacy
  • Information specialists and electronic materials as a part of the content production of the Finnish Virtual Polytechnic
  • The usability and visibility of library services within the Finnish Virtual Polytechnic portal
  • New virtual library services
