South Finland, ESF 3, Open Polytechnic Project

Open Polytechnic project is a part of the ESF Objective Area 3 polytechnic network project managed by the development unit of the Finnish Virtual Polytechnic. The project coordinator is Outi Vahtila (about 50% work contribution). The service is being developed in teams in collaboration with the national development network of the open polytechnic.

The portal for open polytechnic will be developed into a part of the www.amk.fi portal. The portals use the same technical environment using the so-called multiportal feature. This generates significant cost savings.

The actions carried out in the project include:
  • approving the definition of the transaction process
  • approving a national, joint visual outlook and logo for the open polytechnic
  • approving a joint course description
  • designing and implementing the contents of the portal
  • registering an open polytechnic student into the portal
  • implementing the portal and electronic transactions
  • opening the portal at www.avoinamk.fi.

The project also includes defining and implementing into the portal the student management system of the polytechnics based on the definition of the AAPA group (a separate project).

The open polytechnic project begun in autumn 2005 and will continue until the end of 2007.
